Wrapping up the invitational events was the women’s shot put, which saw American Jalani Davis top the podium with a throw of 17.12 metres, Jamaica’s Lloydricia Cameron finish second at 16.73 metres and Ontario’s Liv Sands take bronze at 15.39 metres.

The University of Saskatchewan women’s basketball team handedly defeated the Lethbridge Pronghorns in back-to-back games on the weekend in front of a hometown crowd.

On Saturday night, Ella Murphy Wiebe had a game-high 19 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Huskies to an 84-67 win.

The night before, Saskatchewan won 82-62 thanks to Logan Reider’s game-high 26 points, as well as strong performances by Gage Grassick (14 points, 10 assists) and Courtney Primeau (12 points, 10 rebounds).

The Huskies are third in Canada West’s Prairie Division with a 12-2 record and three weekends to go in the regular season.

Meanwhile, after trailing at halftime on Friday, the men’s team defeated the Pronghorns 81-74 to pick up their first win of the season, led by a game-high 26 points from Easton Thimm.

That momentum didn’t carry into Saturday’s game, however, as Lethbridge won 72-52.

Emmanuel Bonsu and Thimm had 12 points each for the Dogs.

HOCKEY

On the road facing the Alberta Pandas, the Huskies were shut out 3-0 in their pair of games on both Friday and Saturday.

Colby Wilson was in net for Saskatchewan in both meetings and faced more than twice the shots of her Alberta counterpart either night, making 39 saves in the first game and 31 saves in the second.

With three weeks to go in the regular season, the Huskies are fourth in the Canada West East Division with a 4-13-1-0-4-1 record.

VOLLEYBALL

It was a split weekend of results for the men’s and women’s teams as they travelled to the Winnipeg Wesmen.

Isaiah Mamer had 13 kills on Saturday night as Saskatchewan won 3-1 (28-26, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-18), but the team lost their Friday game 1-3 (22-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 22-25) despite Emmett Graham’s 20 kills.

There’s only two weeks left in the season and the men’s team is fourth in Canada West standings at 11-5, while the women’s team is seventh at 8-8.

WRESTLING

Three Huskies topped the podium at the Lethbridge Open on the weekend, including Ellia Gaudet (women’s 50-kilogram division), Myah Phillips (women’s 83-kg) and Drake Buechler (men’s 61-kg).

Those results helped the women’s team finish second with 22 points, while the men’s team was third with 39 points.

The next time Saskatchewan wrestlers will see their conference counterparts will be at the Canada West finals, which the Huskies will host Feb. 15 at Education Gym.
