A police vehicle travelling on the Kandahar grid road struck the boy while he was travelling by foot, says the release, which noted the collision occurred near a rural residence approximately 600 metres from the main community site.
The officer in the vehicle was not physically injured and immediately called for an ambulance and provided first aid to the boy, who “sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision,” says the RCMP.
The boy was airlifted to a Regina hospital and then transferred to Saskatoon, according to police.
SIRT investigates when someone dies or is seriously injured while in police custody or as a result of a police officer’s actions.
The RCMP says officers continue to investigate the firearms-related incident.
Kawacatoose First Nation is located about 130 kilometres north of Regina.
