Saskatoon’s Team Brian Humble and Christopher Lake’s Team Sherry Anderson are provincial masters men’s and women’s curling champions.

Humble’s foursome, featuring lead Kerry Tarasoff, second Greg Kunz and third Terry Hersikorn, were undefeated throughout the championship in Moose Jaw, capping it off with a 6-3 victory over Regina’s Gord Bell in the final.

Meanwhile, after finishing the round robin 3-2, Anderson, along with lead Marilyn Wourms, second Jacquie Swiderski and third Avis Halcro, battled through to the final where they defeated Yorkton’s Cathy Inglis 7-5.

Both teams will move on to represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian Masters Championships March 30 to April 6 in Sault Ste. Marie.

Sask. high school curling season comes to an end

All divisions of high school curling played their provincial finals on the weekend at locations across Saskatchewan.

In the girls’ division, Holy Cross earned the crown  after defeating Kincaid 10-5, while Wynyard claimed the boys’ title with a 4-3 win over the Yorkton Regional 1 team, Swift Current won 5-3 against Yorkton Regional to win the mixed event and the Gladmar 1 team claimed a 7-4 win over the Oxbow 1 team in the doubles competition.

City playoffs underway for high school basketball teams

After defeating the Mount Royal Mustangs 84-50 in semifinals, the Evan Hardy Souls have advanced to Tuesday’s boys’ Saskatoon high school Championship Division basketball final where they’ll take on the Tommy Douglas Tigers, who won their semifinal 70-37 over the Bedford Road Redhawks.

In the girls’ Championship Division final, Bedford Road will face Saskatoon Christian School for the title, also on Tuesday, after winning 61-25 over the Marion Graham Falcons in the semifinals, while SCS defeated Tommy Douglas 57-42.

Meanwhile, the Premiere Division teams will play their semifinals on Wednesday.

On the boys’ side, the Holy Cross Crusaders will take on the Bethlehem Stars, while the St. Joseph Guardians face the Walter Murray Marauders.

Over on the girls’ side, Walter Murray will battle against St. Joseph, while the Centennial Chargers will play Holy Cross.

S’toon Blazers, Canadians advance to SMAAAHL semis

The Saskatoon Blazers and the Regina Pat Canadians have advanced to the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League semifinals after both teams swept their opponents, the Tisdale Trojans and the Prince Albert Mintos, respectively, 3-0 in the best-of-five quarterfinals.

In the other two quarterfinal series, the Estevan North Bears and the Moose Jaw Warriors are tied 2-2 following Saturday’s results, as are the Swift Current Legionnaires and the Warman Wildcats.

SFU18AAAHL playoffs are underway

Game 1 is in the books for each of the best-of-three Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League quarterfinals after Saturday night.

The Saskatoon Stars won 7-1 over the Weyburn Gold Wings, while the Regina Rebels defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 2-1 and the Swift Current Wildcats claimed a 3-2 victory against the Northern Bears.

As the No. 1 seed, the Battlefords Sharks earned a bye to the semifinals.

Westleys, Fort Knox await next PJHL opponents

The Saskatoon Westleys defeated the Saskatoon Quakers 4-1 on Saturday night to win their best-of-seven Prairie Junior Hockey League semifinal series 4-1.

They’ll advance to the Bob Dybvig Conference final, where they’ll face the winner of the Saskatoon Royals and Delisle Chiefs series, which is tied 2-2 after the Royals won 5-4 in overtime on Saturday.

Over in the Bill Johnson Conference, Fort Knox won in four-straight games against the Southern Rebels and will now face either the Regina Capitals or the Pilot Butte Storm, with the former currently leading the series 3-2.
